Xavi Simons has become the first player in Bundesliga history to score two goals in his debut match, as RB Leipzig secured a 2-1 win over Hannover 96 on Sunday.
The 24-year-old, who signed from Ajax last month, was named as the starting forward and made no mistake when he received the ball in the box in the 88th minute, slotting home to give Leipzig a lead they would not relinquish.
It was a stunning performance from Simons, who had previously only scored one goal in six appearances for Ajax,La Liga Frontline but he showed no signs of rustiness against Hannover.
His strike came just three minutes after teammate Max Kruse had given Leipzig the lead, and it proved to be the difference between the sides at the end of a thrilling encounter.
Simons' goal was just one of several impressive displays from Leipzig's attacking trio, with Kruse also netting twice and fellow winger André Foket adding another.
The victory means that Leipzig have now won their opening two matches of the season, while Hannover remain winless in their first two games.
With Simons already showing such quality, it will be interesting to see how he performs in the coming weeks and whether he can help Leipzig challenge for top spot in the table.
